In the story set in 2005, Charles Monroe King is serving in the army as a Senior Staff Sergeant. Realizing that he can't go back, the young man decides to keep a diary for his son, and on October 14, 2006, he died due to a roadside bomb exploding. King's son was only 7 months old when his 200-page diary was unfinished.
