Carla Simon's latest film, Alcarraz, became the first Catalan film to win a Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. Featuring amateur actors, the film tells the story of the Solé family, who for generations have been harvesting peaches on their land in the Catalonian village of Alcarrás. But as they face the evacuation and the possibility of cutting down peach trees and installing solar panels, this year is also likely to be their last harvest, which will create tensions between their close-knit family members. After Estiu 1993/Summer '93, which won the Special Jury Prize at the 2017 Istanbul Film Festival, Carla Simon paints a candid and touching portrait of the unwavering family ties in Alcarrás against the backdrop of traditional Catalonia.
