Almayer marries a Malaysian woman in hopes of becoming very rich. From this marriage they have a daughter named Nina. But Almayer is not happy; He feels like the wrong time traveler. His only hope is that his friend, Captain Lingard, will save him from this life. But Lingard's sudden death puts that hope on hold. As a last resort, Almayer sets out to find the mines left by his friend Lingard, on the pretext of taking his daughter to Europe.
