In England in the 1840s, the acclaimed but overlooked fossil hunter Mary Anning (Kate Winslet) works alone on the steep southern coastline. Against the backdrop of her famous discoveries, she is now looking for common fossils to sell to tourists to support herself and her sick mother. When a wealthy visitor entrusts Mary with the care of his wife, Saoirse Ronan, she cannot afford to decline his offer. Mary is proud of her work and relentlessly passionate, but at first she clashes with the guest, but despite the difference between social class and personality, a strong bond begins to sprout and the two women will have to judge the essence of their relationship.
