Before Elvis, Elton John, Madonna, and Lady Gaga, there was Liberace: a talented pianist, an incredible performer, and a glamorous stage and television star. Known for flamboyance, light, and exaggeration, Liberace was a world-renowned artist, endearing himself to the public and building a loyal fan base throughout his 40-year career. Liberace lived an extreme life both on and off the stage. In the summer of 1977, a handsome young stranger, Scott Thorson, walked into the locker room and despite their age difference and belonging to different worlds, a five-year relationship began between them. Behind the candlestick, he tells about this relationship behind the scenes, from their meeting at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas to their bitter breakup. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the film, which will air on HBO on May 26, stars Michael Douglas as acclaimed musician Liberace and Matt Damon as his girlfriend, Scott Thorson.
