Based on a true story that warms the hearts of people around the world, The Great Miracle follows a reporter from a small town news channel (John Krasinski) as he tells the story of a Greenpeace volunteer (Drew Barrymore). Local TV reporter Adam Carlson (Krasinski) is eager to leave Alaska's northern tip to enter a larger market. When he finds the biggest news of his career, he realizes that the whole world is watching him. Of all the oil giants, government officials, and hungry journalists approaching the cold zone, Rachel Kramer (Barrymore) worries Adam the most. Kramer is an outspoken environmentalist and Adam's ex-girlfriend. Time is running out and Rachel and Adam assemble an unusual group of indigenous people from the northern regions. Oil companies, Russian and US armies set aside their differences and mobilize to save the whales. While everyone's attention is focused on this spot at the top of the world, saving these endangered animals brings grumbling countries closer together and suspends the Cold War for a while.
