In the time between the fall of the Shoguns and the rise of the Meiji era, a powerful and bright light from a magic staff puts an end to the long-running Shogun era to prevent further bloodshed as Japan enters a new era. In the midst of these circumstances, a one-eyed samurai named Izou and an orc named Raiden, who hates murder and hopes to leave his life of stealing behind, encounter a little elf girl named Sonya, who is unaware of each other, at about the same time. Together, they embark on a journey on the Tokaido road to get Sonya and the staff she carries safely to the northern elven realm. But the Inferni, a mysterious organization that seeks to seize the scepter and revive the Dark Lord, who wants to become the master of all creations, are on their way. The Inferni also use the new Meiji government to steal the staff from Izou, Raiden, and Sonya. Traveling on the Tokaido road from Kyoto to Yokohama, Izou and Raiden embark on an adventure to protect the staff.
