Call Jane 2022

Chicago, 1968. Winds of confusion, change and sadness are blowing in the USA; A turning point is approaching for housewife Joy. When it turns out that her second pregnancy is threatening her health, Joy is unable to get permission from the all-male medical board to terminate her pregnancy. In her most desperate moment, a group of women who call themselves the Janes come to her rescue, secretly helping desperate women like herself. Joy decides to help other women make their own decisions by joining this organization that saved her life. Inspired by the true story of the Jane Collective, which was active until 1973, when the US Supreme Court ruled on Roe vs Wade, Call Jane took part in the main competition in Berlin after its world premiere at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. The film's director, Phyllis Nagy, was nominated for Best Screenplay at both the Oscars and the BAFTAs for her screenplay, Carol (2015).
