The great Roman general Maximus (Russell Crowe), who once built an era, was enslaved and deported by the jealous Crown Prince Comodus (Joaquin Phoenix), the heir to the king. Maximus was trained as a gladiator while in captivity and returned to Rome. And he vows revenge on the now emperor Comodus for the murder of his wife and children.
