Huda’s Salon 2021
Palestinian director Hany Abu-Assad’s latest film, which the audience will know with The Promised Paradise and Omar, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. At the center of this thriller inspired by real events are two Palestinian women, Nadia and Huda, who cross paths at a hairdressing salon in Bethlehem in the West Bank. Young mother Nadia, married to a jealous man, goes to Huda’s hair salon in hopes of getting a haircut and clearing her up a bit. This casual visit soon tastes off, as Huda first leaves Nadia in an embarrassing situation, and then blackmails her into working for the invaders’ secret service. Nadia somehow saves herself, but this time Huda finds herself in an impossible situation.
