Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert team up as mismatched lovers in this crazy 1934 comedy classic. Spoiled Ellie Andrews (Colbert) flees from her millionaire father (Walter Connolly) who is trying to keep her from marrying a useless playboy. While traveling to New York, she meets an unemployed journalist (Gable) named Peter Warne. When the bus they're on breaks down, the bickering duo embark on a crazy hitchhiking adventure. Peter hopes to find a job by writing about their adventures. But things change when the runaway heir and the arrogant journalist fall in love. It Happened One Night, directed by Frank Capra, is the first film to win all five of the most important Oscar Awards, namely Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Picture, and Best Screenplay.
