Warming everyone's hearts with his sensational love movie La belle époque / From the Beginning, Nicolas Bedos is this time putting his signature under a fast-paced crime thriller with elements of both comedy and romance. The Masked Ball, adapted by Bedos to 35mm film, adapted from his own unpublished novel, had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was screened Out of Competition. Handsome dancer Adrien, whose career ended in an accident, spends his days killing time with Martha, a former movie star who makes a living on the French Riviera. Adrien meets the extremely attractive Margot, and her life changes forever. With dreams of a brighter life, the two pursue a diabolical conspiracy, an emotional masquerade ball. Inspired by Françoise Sagan's novels and Somerset Maugham stories set in the Riviera, and a “pathetic period” in her own life, director Bedos says: “We can say it's the story of a lost soul who is taken care of by older women. And we can say that it is a very subjective portrait of the Riviera in my own way. This movie is my personal nightmare about human relations in general and love affairs in particular!”
