Mean Streets
(1973)Mean Streets 1973
The religious character Charlie (Harvey Keitel), bar manager Tony (David Proval) and mischievous thug Johnny (Robert De Niro) are three friends living in New York's Little Italy neighborhood. The three friends' daily lives are filled with petty scams, fights, and tribute to Charlie's uncle, Don Juan. They do their best to keep Johnny out of trouble, as they owe it to one of the bar's regulars, the small-time smuggling promoter Michael (Richard Romanus) and everyone in the neighborhood. While trying to pursue an illicit affair with Johnny's niece Teresa (Amy Robinson), Charlie quickly realizes that, at his uncle's push, he has been left alone to protect his friend.
