Jacques Merin, the last of the French gangsters, was declared Public Enemy No. 1 during his lifetime. It regularly ranks high in polls. His glorious death under intense police fire at close range in the heart of Paris crowned his legendary status. So much so that 30 years after his death in 1979, the legend of Jacques Mesrine is still alive and his life is brought to the big screen with a passionate project for the first time in the history of cinema. The project, which was both a thriller and a biography, coincided with historical facts as much as possible. A portrait of the character, including his darkest sides, is drawn in the film, which is not about creating a superhero from Mesrine. The starting point of the story was the man behind the icon.
