Passing
(2021)Passing 2021
Passing tells the story of two black women, Irene Redfield (Tessa Thompson) and Clare Kendry (Ruth Negga), who chose to live on opposite sides during the height of the Harlem Renaissance in New York City in the late 1920s. Summer one afternoon, after accidentally reuniting old childhood friends, Irene reluctantly lets Clare into her home, where she endears herself to Irene's husband (André Holland), her family, and soon her wider social circle. Irene realizes her once stable existence has been turned upside down by Clare, and the film becomes a gripping examination of obsession, oppression, and the lies people tell themselves and others to protect their carefully constructed reality.
