Some dark moments in this Italian fairy tale by Carlo Collodi were removed by Disney, who of course bought the story. But only part of it. Not all of the studio's changes to the resurrected wooden doll story make things worse, as the enduring appeal of the Pinocchio cartoon shows; and many of the scariest details still prevail. Even today, the dangers Pinocchio faces as he gets used to friends who distance him from being a real man adds an element of fear to this classic.
