The story, set in the near future, in which children are accompanied by devices produced to be close friends, brings a new perspective to the digital world and the impact of social media, especially on children. Barney, a middle school student who has been excluded from his social life because he doesn't have a BBOT to keep up with his environment and befriend him, finally convinces his father to buy one of these robots. For Barney, who thinks his luck will turn when he has a close friend, things don't go as he expected. Ron, the robot that comes home, cannot do most of the things other BBOTs do due to a malfunction in its production. This being the case, the job falls apart, and while Barney teaches Ron to be "friends", a friendship begins that makes him smile.
