After a New York girlfriend abandoned him, Jake Burns lives in the suburbs with his mother, mourning and depressed. He desperately tries to meet new people, but seems unable to understand the ever-evolving dating app games. One day, a pop-up ad for a promising new dating app appears, and Jake quickly finds himself in a comprehensive dating system run by artificial intelligence. The founders, powercouples Regina and Plato, show the world where Jake transforms into different characters to best suit the desires of the match. After multiple successful dates ending in romance, Regina and Plato introduce more confident Jake to another level of their activity: Santa Maria-a dating system that fills the day with sex, drugs and virtual reality. Recruiters, or an exclusive community for "influential people," and the joy of inspiring other senses. After a brief test, Jake agrees to spend a month in Santa Maria without contacting the outside world, and to get used to it, he begins to lose grip.
