Edmond Dantes (James Caviezel) is an honest and naive sailor. In his peaceful life, he plans to marry the beautiful Mercedes (Dagmara Dominczyk). But his quiet life is suddenly turned upside down by the betrayal of his best friend, Fernand (Guy Pearce), who wants a Mercedes for him. He is tried for a crime he didn't commit and ends up in the famous island prison known as If. Then a nightmare that will last for 13 years awaits him. During the difficult days in the island prison, he gives up his ideas of good and evil, which he believed until that day. He is now focused only on the idea of taking revenge on those who betrayed him. He finally manages to escape and regain his freedom with the help of another fellow prisoner (Richard Harris) in the same prison. Now he is a very rich and mysterious Count of Monte Cristo. The Count of Monte Cristo is a ruthless man who acts with great cunning and has one goal: to find and systematically destroy those who trapped him and sentenced him to 13 years in prison.
