The Curse of the Jade Scorpion
(2001)The Curse of the Jade Scorpion 2001
We are in New York in the 40s. CW Briggs is the most famous inspector of the insurance company he works for. There is no scam it can't uncover. Its star doesn't quite get along with Betty Ann Fitzgerald, who was recently hired to remodel the office. Betty Ann considers the CW's methods outdated, ignoring new research methods like fingerprinting. Claiming that criminals "get into their brains", CW gets results by acting on their emotions. One day they go to the magician Walton's show together. Volton hypnotizes the two into thinking they love each other. Also, The CW secretly ordered him to steal jewels from wealthy mansions at night and didn't remember anything the next day, so he couldn't uncover the criminal files that came back to him. The inexplicable attraction between the baffled inspector and Betty Ann further complicates matters. Playing stars like Helen Hunt and Dan Aykroyd, Woody Allen returns to the Manhattan he couldn't escape, this time going back decades. While not close to the great classics of the veteran writer/director/actor, this is definitely a romantic comedy that knows how to reward its audience.
