The French Dispatch is described as a love letter written to American journalists living in a fictional city in 20th century France. The film, which will bring the events of the years to the silver screen in a magazine with the same name, spans the years between 1925 and 1975, and the main story of the film begins with the death of the editor-in-chief of the mentioned magazine. The journal team gets together and selects three articles to feature in a commemorative issue. For these three articles; An artist sentenced to life imprisonment for double murder, 68 student protests, and a missing person case solved by a chief are selected.
