Gregory Larkin is a math professor who consistently fails in relationships based solely on sexual passion. Gregory, who placed an ad on the Lonely Hearts page of the newspaper, states that he was looking for a soul, not sexuality, in the person he was looking for. Claire responds to the ad on behalf of her sister Rose, a literature teacher. Rose and Gregory meet. After a while, they make a marriage pact in which mental passion will overtake sexual passion. However, things don't go as planned.
