On a quiet October evening in 1830, the dead body of a cadet student is found hanging from a rope at West Point Academy. The next morning, even more terrifying events come to light. Someone took out the dead man's heart. The detective Augustus Landor, who was famous in New York at the time, is called to investigate. The murder is an event that Landor must secretly investigate, as the scandal is at the level of irreversible damage to the academy. The detective gets help from someone he never expected. A melancholic, drinking young student comes up with a poem in two stanzas to the detective's name. Landor will make an unforgettable impression on Edgar Allen Poe, this strange young poet from the south.
