Nick Wells (Robert De Niro) is ready to leave the criminal world. He starts a quiet and peaceful life with his girlfriend Diana (Angela Bassett) and focuses on his only passion, jazz. But his business partner and friend Max (Marlon Brando) has other plans. To accomplish this, he teams up with Jack (Edward Norton), a young, aggressive and talented thief. Jack needs an experienced co-worker like Nick to successfully land his first big "job".
