The film chronicles an extraordinary experiment set in 1959 at Ypsilanti Public Hospital in Michigan. Doctor Alan Stone treats schizophrenic patients, all three of whom think he is Jesus. Deciding to apply an unusual method during the treatment, the doctor confines the patients to a room and watches their conversations instead of giving them electroshock.
