It's always the children who suffer from broken marriages. 6-year-old Maisie experiences the drama of her parents' marriage in this brilliant staff drama based on the 1897 Henry James novel. The aging rock star is grappling with the concussions of the unfortunate divorce of his mother, Susanna, and his charismatic but disinterested art dealer father, Beale. At first, he doesn't seem to be very upset about this situation, in fact, this situation bothers him more. Then one day his father moves out of the house and his beloved nanny goes with him, and his mother marries a bartender. Maisie commutes between two houses. Until one day she decides she doesn't want to play anymore.
