During World War I, Cal Trask (James Dean) competes with his brother Aaron (Richard Davalos) for the love of his father (Raymond Massey). East of Eden is a 1955 American film directed by Elia Kazan and directed by Elia Kazan. The screenplay is written by Paul Osborne, based on the novel of the same name by John Steinbeck. Starring James Dean, Julie Harris and Raymond Massey, the film earned Jo Van Fleet an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The film was also nominated for Oscars for Best Actor, Best Director and Best Screenplay. The film returned with awards from many ceremonies such as the Golden Globe and the Cannes Film Festival.
