Jordan Benedict Jr., the owner of the largest cattle ranch and estates in the state of Texas with the legacy of generations past. (Rock Hudson) visits a horse farm across the country to buy a valuable horse and falls in love with the owner's stubborn, intellectual daughter, Leslie (Elizabeth Taylor). They get married and arrive at Benedict's magnificent mansion in the middle of a vast steppe. The mansion is run by Sister Luz Benedict and will not give way to a new bride.
