Directed by British director John Schlesinger, Midnight Cowboy is an ultra-realistic adult film with a pessimistic and heavy theme. The film, which tells the strange friendship and tragic story of two homeless, vagrant and vagrant anti-heroes, is reminiscent of Steinbeck's novel Of Mice and Men with a fairy tale language. The film is a moral lesson in the consumerist class structure of American society. When it aired, some viewers thought it was a cowboy movie. One of the film's two protagonists, the pure-blooded Texan dishwasher who never takes off his tasseled cowboy jacket, comes to ruthless New York in hopes of becoming a high-paid gigolo, while Midnight Cowboy means "male hooker." Midnight Cowboy is the first and only adult film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. Originally shown with the adult films classification (X rating) for its audacious scenes involving sex and drugs, the film was included in the general audience category when it was re-released in the late 1970s. Midnight Cowboy won seven Academy Awards, including Best Actor (Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight), Best Supporting Actress (Supporting Sylvia Miles), and Best Editing (Hugh A.
