Set during the Cold War, an American nuclear submarine is attacked by an unknown enemy and sinks to the bottom of the sea. The US Navy is asking employees of a nearby gas station to investigate the cause and is sending a special team and a high-tech research submarine to support them. Based on their data and determinations, the team concludes that an alien attack may have been the cause of the "accident", but they must enter a deep underwater canyon called "The Abyss" to advance their search. .
