Melanie Daniels (Tippi Hedren), a rich, beautiful and spoiled young woman, meets handsome and interesting lawyer Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor) at a pet store in San Francisco. Melanie likes Mitch, even though she's mad at Mitch's little prank on her at the store. That day, she buys the birds she's been looking for but can't find for Mitch's sister's birthday, and decides to take them as gifts to Mitch's home in Bodego Bay, a small town on the Pacific coast. Although life in the city seems normal to Melanie at first, after a few days the birds in and around the city begin to behave strangely and attack people for no reason. Bird attacks will soon become deadly, their attacks on humans intensified. Because they break the window of the farmer's house, they go in and cut the farmer's eyes to death; Likewise, the young woman Melanie meets will be their victim. The townspeople, who are afraid of these events created by all kinds of birds and do not know what to do, take shelter in their homes and shops like caged birds and are, in a sense, trapped inside. The townspeople begin to think that Melanie is cursed, based on the events that begin after Melanie's arrival in town. While on vacation in Northern California, director Alfred Hitchcock is fascinated by the news in the newspaper. The report mentions seabirds attacking coastal homes. When this event and Daphne du Maurier's story came together in the director's mind, the foundations of Birds were laid.
