Chris MacNeil lives with his 12-year-old daughter, Regan, at their home in Georgetown. Separated from her husband, Chris plans a party for his daughter Regan's birthday. Chris thinks his daughter may have an illness after Regan behaves erratically during Regan's birthday. Regan is shown to many doctors and tried to be treated many times. But doctors who can't make a definitive diagnosis can't cure Regan. At this time, the evil acts of the little girl are increasing day by day. Unable to cure Regan, the doctors advise, as a last resort, that Chris find a priest who can perform the exorcism. Although Chris is not religious, his fears increase when his friend Burke Dennings is thrown out the window of his daughter's room with a broken neck and he seeks help from Father Damien Karras.
