Annie Laird is a sculptor, but she also has a part-time job to earn a living with her son. As a result, he takes very little time to himself – he says he doesn't even have time to read the newspaper or watch the news. For this reason, he has never heard from the famous mafia boss Louis Buffano, the suspect in the case he was selected for jury membership. But that doesn't stop him from becoming a target: An assassin known only by the nickname "The Teacher" weaves a gruesome web around him to influence his decision on the case and convince the other jurors to find Buffano innocent.
