Sugarland Experiences is not veteran director Steven Spielberg's feature debut, but rather his first real-life feature film that tells the story of a parent trying to kidnap their own child. First, Lou-Jean, who helps her husband escape from prison, then they take a police officer hostage and get in a police car to retrieve his child, who was taken from him by court order and given to a wealthy elderly family.
