The Train
(1964)The Train 1964
The director of the film, John Frankenheimer's signature, Paris seems to be freed from Nazi control at any moment. At least, that's the information German officer Colonel Franz von Waldheim (Paul Scofield) has received. His command from above is to bring home priceless works of art from the Jeux de Paume Museum. The works will be sent to Germany by train; railroad inspector Labiche (Burt Lancaster) will also try to block this shipment. Frankenheimer's insistence on the use of real trains and stations in his railway scenes was evident, and the scenes that gave the film an extremely realistic and gripping air impressed many directors. Traces of "Train" can also be found in later scenes of films such as "Bullitt" and "French Connection".
