Zulu 1964

War rages between the British Empire and the Zulu Kingdom in the Zulu region of South Africa. The film tells the story of the conflict at Rorke Pass on January 22, 1879, the second of 8 conflicts that took place during this war. At the very beginning of the movie, the first of these conflicts is the Battle of Isandlwana, in which the Zulus completely destroyed a large British garrison. He arrived at a small English outpost at Roark Pass on country roads. Upon learning of the attack plan at the Zulu wedding ceremony, missionary Otto Witt (Jack Hawkins) and his daughter Margareta (Ulla Jacobsson) immediately arrive at the party and warn of the danger. A snobby-looking inexperienced Lieutenant Gonville Bromhead (Michael Caine) leads a team of 139. Bromhead, who would have wisely left the area, had to relinquish command to Lieutenant John Chard (Stanley Baker), a somewhat senior army engineer who was sent to build a bridge in the area, and also lacked combat experience. . Chard decides to stay in the area and defend the outpost. Against the Zulu of 4-5 thousand highly trained warriors, this is a suicide decision. The outnumbered British, whose only advantage was firearms, put up formidable resistance to the large Zulu army, armed only with spears and the few rifles captured in the previous attack. For two days they stubbornly resisted the Zulus' ingenious military tactics. When the British are nearly exhausted and the Zulus seem to be able to destroy them completely with a final assault, an incredible event occurs and the Zulus retreat and leave singing songs of British prowess. Joseph Adendorff (Gert Van den Berg), an Afrikaner adviser at the British outpost and who knows the Zulus very well, explains that the Zulus stopped fighting and retreated because they appreciated the heroic resistance of the British.
